It's snow! It's fairy dust!
The best kind of dust,, if one must have dust is that of fairy dust. Fairy dust makes everything look and feel better. Today I got to see the entire backyard coated with a layer of said fairy dust. It looked magical!

My wonderful photographer (a.k.a. Mom) was kind enough to take a few pictures of me dressed in my "new" saree outfit after work today.

Who's Saree-d now?
It is finished!!!!! I am so excited about this outfit and can't wait to wear it out. It is the perfect blend of my fantasy clothing and clothing that is acceptable for "normal" wear. This is me.
I finished the skirt by putting in a zipper (I hadn't wanted on originally) and just put the elastic in the back of the skirt so it looks fitted but will adjust with me so I can continue to wear in when I gain some weight.
To make the blouse I combined 4 patterns and made up parts to blend them into one top.
I laid out the fabric and after some wiggling around I found most economical way of laying out the pattern pieces.
I wanted to keep the border print around the bottom in front and back so the side with the large designs was assigned the front.
I wanted the small designs to go down the center of my arms. I thought I had it lined up, apparently I didn't. They are a bit off center but not so much as to ruin the effect. Depending on how I hold my arms they look like the design is centered. :) I also kept the border print for the cuffs.
I was originally going to have a zipper on the left side under my arm but after my mockup I found I didn't need one if I put a small tie in the back. I slip in and out. Note to self: fix hair AFTER the shirt is on.
The complete look. I think it looks better on a person not the dress form but that could be my wishful thinking.
That's all I have for now. Thanks for looking!

The blouse design is based of pictures of blouses they wear with sarees' I just modified it a bit to fit my preferences.
As I mentioned in my previous post I cut the pallu off the end and inserted in the front folding. I have it fanned out a bit so you can see the design.
Since I made it a two piece outfit I can mix and match tops and bottoms. Almost any jewel tone top would look stunning with this skirt. I love the waist band. I really want to try a nice black skirt with the top. I think it would make it pop.
That's all I have for now. Thanks for looking!

So Saree!
I have a wonderful friend that gave me two sarees. I was going to leave it as was (it made a beautiful bedspread) and just learn how to wear it the way the people of India do but then decided I really didn't want to have a wardrobe malfunction at work. I then had to decide what I was going to make with the gorgeous purple and gold saree.
I wanted it to be styled authentically (kinda) so I cut off the pallu, pleated it, and sewed that in the front.
After much thought on the matter the best I could come up with was a skirt and matching blouse. I wanted it to be fitted at the top but then I wouldn't be able to wear it if I gained any weight so I gored the top and added a bit of elastic.
Something interesting I found when looking at the sarees is that they have the first bit of the fabric weighted so it stays down and keeps in the skirt shape. Great idea since the fabric is very light weight.

I didn't like how the waist band looked once I had it on so I had to take it out. I have to shorten it a bit and cut the elastic a bit shorter before reattaching it again. That's my progress so far!
